Q: How does it work?



Q: How much does Candystick cost?
A: Creating a Money Box is free. Contributing to a Money Box comes with a R5.00 transaction charge. Spending a Money Box with one of our online partners is free. But if you prefer to transfer the money into your bank account a 5.5% transaction fee applies.


Q: Why would I open a Money Box?
A: Candystick is all about making group funding easier:

  • Do good: Raise money for charities or causes that are deserving e.g. all types of registered charities, new equipment for schools, the funeral of a relative, funds for a medical operation, etc.
  • Move forward: Crowd-fund a project important to you e.g.  a new small business venture, the recording of your first music album, the publishing of a book, a sport tour overseas, etc.
  • Bring joy: Contribute towards a special occasion or present e.g. weddings, birthdays, group holidays, farewells, housewarmings, stag and hen parties, baby showers, honeymoons, bat mitzvahs, etc.


Q: What is the difference between a private and a public Money Box
A: A private Money Box (created by default) is a box where only the people who have been invited (via email, social media or copying the link in other applications) can contribute. It is ideal for special occasions and gifts


 A public Money Box (where users have to tick Public Money Box on the site) is a box that is displayed to the public on our website and where everybody can contribute without receiving a private invitation. It is ideal for charities, causes or crowd funding. Candystick reserves the right to remove any Money Box from our public display should the purpose of the fundin, or the description not be ethical (sex, strong language, discrimination, violence).


Q: Is there a minimum or maximum target that my Money Box needs to reach?
No, there is no minimum or maximum target that your box needs to reach- unless a specific amount has been requested.  


Q: Is there a minimum or maximum limit to my contributions?
A: Yes, there is a minimum contribution of R50 and a maximum of R10 000. If you want to contribute more than R10 000, then you will need to send a copy of your ID and proof of residence to info@candystick.co.za.


Q: How do I remind people to contribute to a Money Box that I’ve created?
A: You have the option to remind everyone under our Money Boxe’s profile. However, candystick automatically monitors who hasn’t contributed, and send regular reminders to them.


Q: Can I add more people to my invite list after I have created a Money Box?
A: Yes, you can add more people to the invite list at any point in time until the Money Box reaches its maturity.


Q: Can I spend my Money Box at any point in time?
A: No, you may only spend your Money Box once you the Money Box has reached its maturity date.


Q: Can people choose not to contribute?
A: Yes, the people invited to a Money Box will always have the option to “opt-out” of contributing to a Money Box.


Q: How do I thank people who contributed?
A: Once the Money Box reaches its maturity date, you can see everyone who contributed and send individual thanks you’s or a mass thank you to everyone.


Q: Can I spend the full Money Box amount at Candystick’s online partners stores?

A: Yes, the people invited to a Money Box will always have the option to “opt-out” of contributing to a Money Box.


Q: Is my money safe with Candystick?
A: We’ve put numerous precautions in place to make sure that the money collected is as safe as possible. The money contributed goes into a safe deposit account in a bank where no-one can touch it until the Money Box reaches it’s maturity date. Then the lucky recipient can spend it at his/her leisure.
