March Crowdfunding Miracles

Moneyboxes that are crowdfunding their way to the top by rallying their local community (image by Sullivan Photography ZA)

In March we’ve seen even more moneyboxes collecting for life changing causes. We’ve had hundreds open, from big to small. We’ve seen sponsored trips for karate champions and trips to far off islands for a honeymoon. There have been collections for friends, for family and, incredibly, for strangers who need a helping hand. The outpouring of kindness and support has been overwhelming as the Candystick community continues to grow.

With three completely unique stories, we know the Candystick crowdfunding platform has the potential to raise much needed funds for projects, gifts, charities, and collections for all types and backgrounds.

Bobby en Karlien collect all around South Africa

This month on VIA TV, Bobby and Karlien van Jaarsveld are crowdfunding for the Flamingo Project; an organisation that raises funds to provide surgeries to patients living with breast cancer. Thanks to Project Flamingo the waiting time at Groote Schuur, for this life saving surgery, is now between 2-4 weeks instead of 10-12. The difference between life and death, the organisation works round the clock to ensure patients are comfortable and get the best care for themselves. The best part, Bobby and Karlien lead the way by telling the heartfelt stories of the doctors and patients who have brought Project Flamingo to life.

Dreaming of New York

Veronica has her heart set on running the New York marathon and with the help of her family and friends, she’s almost there. V has been working for Jody’s family for over a decade and is always teaching them lessons of kindness. Her attitude and her dedication to running are inspiring. Starting her training late in life, V started with just a 4km trail that left her with the running bug. She stuck to it and moved on to 10km, then adding bit by bit V ran her first marathon. Her first run at Comrades (a double marathon) was a success and now she’s ready for a new challenge.

Already halfway to the collection mark, V’s campaign has crowdfunded over R25000 so far and is aiming for R40,000 to get her all the way to New York City!

For the fire victims in Hout Bay

We’ve seen a few incredible crowdfunding campaigns pop-up to help the victims of the Imizamo Yethu fires in Hout Bay. The people of IY lost virtually everything. Devastated, but not without hope, friends and family are pitching in with much needed funds to buy food, water, clothing, and eventually new housing. Take a look at three incredible moneybox examples that are currently crowdfunding for the victims and volunteers who have worked tirelessly to put out the fire and rebuild their lives.
